Kevin’s mom Kate McCallister had it going on. The unforgettable Catherine O’Hara’s most famous role may have been in Chris Columbus’s classic 1990 holiday comedy, “Home Alone.” But she commanded a sterling reputation from the get-go as an original cast member of the early SNL peer SCTV and through scene-stealing roles in vintage 1980s films “After Hours,” “Heartburn,” and “Beetlejuice.”

After “Home Alone” and its sequel, she kept that mojo going on her terms, classing up every acting collaboration with wit and style. So many of them, too: O’Hara’s goofy characters in Christopher Guest’s four-film mockumentary suite from 1996 to 2006; her instantly memorable and daft Moira Rose in the late-2010s hit comedy series “Schitt’s Creek”; and her triumphant final role as Patty Leigh, a former movie super-producer eyeing a comeback, in last year’s first season of “The Studio.”

A brilliant actress, a remarkable career.
