COOL HAND FRANK spotlights purpose-driven organizations working to make this world healthier, happier, and better.

‍Heart disease is awful, killing more people worldwide than any other.  Two months after my long-time best friend and COOLER member Rob C. and his sister Tammy lost their mother to lung cancer, they lost their father to a major heart attack — one brought on by heart disease symptoms exacerbated by intense stress and grief. To lose both parents in such short time is unfathomable.

That's why COOL HAND FRANK is spotlighting the American Heart Association. Though founded in 1924, this nonprofit has invested more than $6.1 billion in research since 1949 and doggedly pursues ways to significantly reduce, if not eliminate, heart attacks, strokes, and cardiac arrest.

The pursuit is urgent, too. According to the World Health Organization, “An estimated 19.8 million people died from CVDs [cardiovascular diseases] in 2022, representing approximately 32% of all global deaths. Of these deaths, 85% were due to heart attack and stroke.”

There are a multitude of ways to help the American Heart Association achieve its lifesaving mission: volunteer, start or register for an academic Heart Club, participate in events like CycleNation or a Heart Walk, and, of course, donate.

‍And please, if you or someone else is experiencing noticeable signs of heart disease, call 911 immediately.
